This year’s County Fair in Emory Glen was a success any way you look at it, but the proof is in the numbers: nearly 800 in attendance, thousands of smiles throughout the day, and $5,000 raised for the Magnolia Education Foundation.
Postponed from an earlier date because of foul weather, the day was “gourdgeous,” with sunny skies setting the scene for a day of fun. As always, the carnival was a hit — nearly 7,000 rides were taken as eventgoers enjoyed the spinning, swinging, and circling attractions.

And when not on rides or watching their children whirl around, the adults enjoyed shopping local craft vendors. Food trucks kept everyone well-fed, while shops such as Aunt Lena Bell’s Sugar Ooey Gooey Cakes and The Candied Cookie offered tempting treats for those craving something sweet. The kids had a sugary favorite of their own, with more than 400 cones of fluffy cotton candy handed out.

Something else that had kids smiling was the face painter who decorated 135 cheeks with fanciful characters.

The pumpkin patch was another hit as people picked their favorite gourd, posed for pictures, and dreamed up ways to decorate their finds. In all, 225 pumpkins found happy homes, ready to be transformed into friendly painted creations or frightful, candlelit carvings.

With hundreds of eventgoers new to Emory Glen, the County Fair gave them a chance to experience life in our community. The playground was packed with children enjoying the day, and families had a chance to tour model homes by Empire Homes, Chesmar, Ashton Woods, and Highland Homes.
With fun for all ages and support for a worthy cause, this year’s County Fair was a day worth celebrating!
