Texas temperatures are soaring which means some days it will just be too hot to play outside. But don’t let the heat dampen your spirits! There are plenty of fun, cool activities you can enjoy inside your new, beautiful, Emory Glen home. Who knows — you might even find yourself hoping for more humid days to try out all these interesting ideas!
Transform your game room or family area into a campsite by setting up a tent, rolling out sleeping bags, and crafting a fake campfire. Encourage kids to tell spooky stories and take a “hike” around the house. When you’re done, warm up some indoor s’mores, which are delicious any time of the year.
Soak in a refreshing spa experience at home with DIY face masks, foot salts with warm water, and essential oils. Bring out any massage equipment you might have and take turns pampering each other. You can also treat yourselves to a manicure, pedicure, or both. Don’t forget to make a pitcher of fancy spa water.
Invite the neighbors over for an ice cream party, but take a trip to the grocery store first to stock up on everyone’s favorite flavors. For extra fun, make your own frozen treats. Make it extra special by creating an ice cream sundae bar with plenty of mix-ins and toppings. For those avoiding dairy, make popsicles with fruit juice or sorbet.
Wish you could head to Galveston? Why not bring Galveston to you? Put on your swimsuits and spread beach towels out on the floor and play volleyball with a balloon. Have a sandcastle-building contest using kinetic sand. Don’t forget tropical mocktails and coastal-themed snacks.
Ditch the video games, dust off those board games, and have a tournament. Invite friends over and set up different game stations, keeping score and awarding prizes to the winners. Include card games and puzzles for variety.
Escape to the media room for a day filled with cool movies and snacks. Choose a theme (like winter movies to help you feel cooler) and then create a cozy viewing area with lots of pillows and blankets. Prepare movie-themed snacks for the full experience.
Host your own sporting event in honor of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Set up different “events” around the house like sock sliding or paper airplane throwing, and then create medals for the winners. Don’t forget the opening and closing ceremony. The Olympics are in Paris this year so be sure to have French food on hand.
Start a cool green project. Ideas include planting herbs in small pots for a kitchen garden and creating terrariums in glass jars. You can even start a hydroponic garden to see how plants can thrive in water rather than soil.
Put on your pirate hats and embark on a treasure hunt. First, draw a treasure map of your house and then hide “treasure” (treats or small toys) around the home. Leave clues for fellow adventurers to follow.
Turn your home into a cool art museum. Spend time creating artwork (painting, drawing, collages) and then hang up your creations. Afterward, invite friends and family members to tour the “gallery.” For added fun, break out the Monopoly money and have an art auction.
